As project events are planned and scheduled, they will be posted on this page.
Scheduled Events:
Design Activities:
Design activities are focusing on the I-83 mainline capacity improvements by the addition of travel lanes. The design activities also include consideration of improvements at adjacent intersections and roadways, such as the Colonial Road/ US 22 and Union Deposit Road/East Park Drive intersections. The locations of retaining walls and noise barriers along the corridor are being analyzed. The results of these activities will be presented at a public meeting to be announced.
Public Involvement Activities:
Continued coordination with the municipalities in the project area will occur as various design issues are addressed.
Environmental Activities:
As environmental field work is completed in the Fall of 2007, analysis of the existing features is ongoing.
Soil Testing Activities:
At this time, Summer of 2007, routine soil testing has been completed to determine load-bearing capability.

Traffic Counting Activities:
During September and October of 2006, traffic counts will be conducted throughout the project area. This activity will include tubes across the roadway to automatically count traffic and manual counts for turning traffic at intersections by project team members.
Environmental Field Work:
Environmental study teams and survey crews will be conducting field work on the I-83 East Shore Section 1 Project corridor, beginning in October 2006, to evaluate features such as:
- Historic Resources
- Archaeological Resources
- Wetlands and Streams
- Community Resources
- Noise and Air Quality Characteristics
- Potential Hazardous Waste Sites
- Utilities
- Traffic Characteristics and Access
Environmental and other information that is gathered will be used as a guide during the process of design refinement for the new roadway to avoid, to the extent possible, impacts to sensitive resources. That information will be presented at future public meetings for this project.
